Domains and the Knowledge Graph

Library answers what do I have? Domains answer how does this field fit together, and what do I have for each part of it?

Fields and topics

A domain is a field such as Physics, Robotics or Neuroscience. Each domain is divided into topics, such as Robotics › Legged locomotion. Xandria ships with a map of over fifty fields, and places your books and papers on it using their subjects and topics.

Open Domains from the rail (or press Ctrl+Shift+D), then pick a topic to see:

  • the books, papers, documents and notes about it, including those in its subtopics;
  • its knowledge path: what it builds on, what it leads to and what it overlaps with.

Use Filter Domains to show only the fields you care about. Hidden fields stay hidden until you bring them back.

The Knowledge Graph

The Knowledge Graph draws those relations as a map. Open it from the command palette or with Ctrl+Shift+G, or choose Open Local Graph from a topic.

  • Local shows the neighbourhood around one topic, book or author. Select a node to move the focus there.
  • Global shows everything visible at once.

Relations include contains, requires, draws from, extends, applies, overlaps and same as.

Getting books into Domains

A book appears in a domain when its subjects or topics match the field. To place a book, give it a subject or topic in its details. With AI turned on, Xandria can also suggest where a book belongs; suggestions never overwrite what you set yourself.
