Turn on sync

Turning on sync puts this computer's library in your Xandria account. From then on, your reading, highlights, Notes, boards and Collections stay up to date on every computer you sign in on, and soon on your phone and tablet.

You need to be signed in. If you've been using Xandria without an account, sign in first and choose Add to my account. See First launch and sign in.

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings → Account. Under Sync across devices it says Sync is off.
  2. Choose Turn on sync. Xandria checks your library and your storage.
  3. Review what will be uploaded: how many books, Notes, Canvas boards, Wiki pages, Collections and lists, and how much of your storage they need.
  4. Choose Turn on sync.

Xandria then uploads your library in four steps: Check, Upload, Verify and Finish. Editing pauses while it uploads; you can still read. When it's done, Settings → Account says Sync is on.

Your Notes, boards and reading reach your other devices first. Large book files keep uploading in the background afterwards, so a second computer can open your notes before every book has arrived.

Linked folders keep working: books you add to them later upload on their own. Your files on disk are never changed.

Cancel setup stops at any point before the switch and leaves your library on this computer as it was.

When your account already has a library

If you've already turned on sync on another computer, your account has a library of its own. Xandria tells you so in the review, and you have two choices.

Merge libraries

Choose Prepare merge. Xandria uploads this computer's library, then shows exactly what the merge will do before anything changes:

You'll seeMeans
New bookA book only this computer had. It's added with its details, highlights and notes.
Already in CloudThe same file is already in your account. Your highlights, notes and bookmarks are added to that book; its details and cover stay as they are in your account.
Book skippedYou deleted this book in your account, so it isn't added back.
New documentA note or board only this computer had. It's added.
MergedThe same note or board, edited in both places. The edits are combined.
Kept as a copyA note or board that can't be combined safely. Both versions are kept.

Choose Merge libraries to apply it.

A few rules keep a merge predictable:

  • Your account's details win for books, Collections and lists that exist in both places. Nothing is merged just because two titles match.
  • Deletions in your account stay deleted. Things you deleted only on this computer aren't deleted from your account.
  • Your reading position in your account stays. This computer's position is kept as a recent location, so you can jump to it.
  • Nothing is lost silently. Notes and boards that can't be combined are kept as copies.

Use Cloud on this device

If you'd rather have your account's library here instead, choose Use Cloud on this device…. This replaces this computer's library with your account's, and discards what's only on this computer. Your linked book files stay on disk. See Use Cloud on this device.

If something goes wrong

Setup survives restarts and lost connections: open Xandria again and it carries on from where it stopped. If it needs you, it says so and offers Retry setup, or Sign in again if your sign-in expired.
